Hello there,
In order to have a blinking black cursor that shows characters in
reverse, I use the following options (which seems to be the standard
procedure):
MiscCursorBlinks=TRUE
ColorCursor=
This works well except when the cursor is on a character where the
background and foreground colors are identical (I use that to mark
quoted text in email with Vim, so you don't have a columns of ">" but
a red bar): then the cursor doesn't blink at all and the character is
shown as is (so in effect there is no cursor anymore). It doesn't
happen if I specify ColorCursor, but I don't because I want a black
cursor and using "#000000000000" creates an opaque cursor, as is well
known, I think.
It seems rather harmless, but it's actually quite annoying because I
get lost often in emails.
It looks like a bug to me, but perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
Best,
Paul

Trying to replicate what you're seeing and I think I've got it now.
I wonder if its an issue with vte? If so, vte2 is no longer supported, so probably little chance of it getting fixed. There is currently an effort to port xfce4-terminal to gtk3/vte3 (see: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11207). That may be the best bet for getting it resolved, but we'll have to wait until the first builds come out before it can be tested.

Thanks for your answer. Do you think I should fill a bug report anyway?

Maybe a good idea to get confirmation from the developer that it is a vte issue.
