Hyv"a"a p"aiv"a! and also Waidmannsheil!

My apologies for the diacritics! I don't have an Umlaut on this keyboard.

I've been watching the Fedora/Xfce list on Gmane (I use Gmane for everything I can), but didn't know about this Forum till someone kindly posted this URL today on Gmane's fedora.general list. (I'm an o-l-d retired fart with no formal training in anything related to Linux or the Net, but I've been online for twenty-odd years.)

I don't have an Umlaut on this keyboard.

I'm not sure whether to take this seriously or not: if you are running Xfce, did you try going to Settings Manager > Keyboard, Layout tab: uncheck "Use system defaults" and add a German keyboard? Then you can switch to that one when you want and the umlauted letters can be typed from any keyboard AFAIK (for me, ' = ä, ; = ö, [ = ü).

MX-23 (based on Debian Stable) with our flagship Xfce 4.18.
