Could the default start up programs come with either a more descriptive details on what they do or link to a website that explains more clearly what they do.

The default startup programs are going to be specific to the distro that you are using. Xfce will add, I believe, only 2 items to the startup application list (xfsettingsd and xfce4-power-manager). All other core Xfce components will be auto-started via the "startxfce4" script. It might also add any extra plugins that you may install like clipman, notes, volumed, etc). In each of these cases, the description field will contain the Name and Comment fields from the associated .desktop file placed in the system default auto-start folder (which differs from distro to distro). This will be in the format of "Name (Comment)".

If some of the items are missing or incomplete, they were probably added there by the distro that you are using and you should probably approach the distro or package maintainers about adding more descriptive comments for their autostart applications.

As for a linking to a website, this functionality does not exist for this module. You can always create an enhancement request for such functionality through the bug reporting site.

Run Synaptic Package Manager, type the name of the application(s) that you'd like a description on, and read (some may have screenshots available as well). That'll give you a description. You can also set it to display installed files and browse through the list.

You do understand, don't you, that Synaptic is Debian-specific? What if Ryu945 is using Fedora, or some other rpm based system?

Well, since he chose to assume we'd know which distro he is using, I'm choosing to assume it's Mint, lol.

Perhaps you'd like to mention what the ".rpm" equivalent to Synaptic Package Manager is, in case he actually uses that package system instead of a ".deb" one?

Fedora is in the process of changing from yum to dnf. In either case, if you want a GUI instead of a CLI, use yumex.
