How to assign preferred application to a file type?

Clicking on a MP3 brings up a default media player that doesn't play the MP3 audio.  I have other media players that do but I cannot find where I can make any of them the default player for MP3 files.  Where or how can this be done?
Currently running LM17.2 Xfce 64 bit.

Re: How to assign preferred application to a file type?

Run Thunar, right-click on any .MP3 file, left-click on "Open With," then left-click on "Open With Other Application...," then make sure "Use as default for this kind of file" is enabled, select the application you wish to use, and left-click on "Open."

Regards,
MDM
