I installed plasma 5 on arch alongside MATE, GNOME, and XFCE but, ever since I changed the default gtk theme for plasma 5 to Orion, i cannot change it back to any other in xfce, but it works fine in GNOME, i haven't tried it in MATE. Any Ideas? thanks

I've never used plasma, but a stab in the dark here. Does the plasma/kde configuration module make changes to either ~/.gtkrc-2.0, ~/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.config/gtk-3.0/* files? If so, they would be overriding the settings chosen in Xfce's appearance module.

Yes, it does. How do I fix that?

Either rename those files (if you want to save them for future use) or delete them. Then log in and out again for it to take effect.

Its a known bug. Which distro are you using? Can you use the xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin or something like pnmixer instead?

Yes! It worked for me too! After messing with KDE I could change themes in XFCE anymore...
