[Solved] XFCE freezing after some use

Hello everyone,
i am new to xfce and archlinux. My xfce DE freezes after some use. Applications which are already opened is not affected by this issue. i.e i can use those applications which were opened before the freeze. Once frozen i cannot launch any new app from the launchers or from the menu but i can access already opened tabs. The only solution to it is  logout and logging in. Please help me to solve this issue.
thank you

Re: [Solved] XFCE freezing after some use

Hello and welcome. A few questions:

Is there anything in your journal when this starts happening?

If you try to open an application from a terminal window after the freeze, does it work? If not, are any error messages displayed?

Which menu are you referring to? (the applications menu plugin, whisker menu...). Do the apps start if you right-click on the desktop and use that menu?

How do you start Xfce? Are you using a display manager or starting via startx or startxfce4?

It shows below error.

No protocol specified

I meant the application menu. No. It does not launch anything.

I start xfce4 by adding

exec dbus-launch startxfce4 &>>/dev/null

in $HOME/.xinitrc file
I also have SLiM installed as login manager

Re: [Solved] XFCE freezing after some use

A couple of suggestions:

1. Try setting your host name to something other than "localhost". From 'man hostnamectl':

...If a static hostname is set, and is valid (something other than localhost)...

See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … e_hostname

2. In Arch, dbus has changed recently and I don't believe dbus-launch is required any more. Here is my .xinitrc file which properly starts dbus and Xfce:

#!/bin/bash

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f
fi

[ -f ~/.xsession-errors ] && mv ~/.xsession-errors ~/.xsession-errors.old
startxfce4 > ~/.xsession-errors 2>&1

...note that I also create and use a ~/.xsession-errors file to help with logging and troubleshooting. For dbus environment setup, the /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/50-system-user.sh file must be sourced (which is handled in the first block of code in the .xinitrc file).

Thank you really much ToZ. After changing the hostname there is no freezing issue.
