Xfce won't sleep in Xubuntu 15.10

Hi forum users,

Here I am again, having sleep problems smile

I have installed Xubuntu 15.10 and I'm experiencing a weird problem. When I expect my computer to be sleeping in the morning and turn it on, I notice that it is in fact not asleep.
When the screen resumes, I have a "pop" notification saying "GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Method call timed out.".

Tailing the syslog doesn’t show anything related to the issue, but I also noticed that the GUI is asking me for my sudo password, saying something like the usual "An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges" (From polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1).
I also noticed that when i try to dismiss this sudo dialog, it pops up again many times (Probably as many times as the sleep delay occured, eg if the computer is set to sleep after 15 minutes and I left it for 6 hours unattended, the sudo dialog would pop 12 times).

Is there anything i could do to finally get my computer to properly sleep?

Here are informations about the system:

Re: Xfce won't sleep in Xubuntu 15.10

Debian xfce boots and shutdowns so fast that there is no sense to use sleep either in desktop or laptop. Sleep is a feature that depends a lot from the hardware and is difficult to test. I do not like how canonical restricts xfce features in xubuntu, for example no virtual desktops and the windows  look is ugly. Use debian testing xfce, less problems there (because no extra canonical useless code)  and original xfce. For 64-bit cpu:
d-i.debian.org/daily-images/amd64/daily/netboot/mini.iso
Choose Debian Desktop and Xfce in the installer.

@doodloo, have a look at this bug report - it looks relevant. According to the report, changing a light-locker setting in xfce4-power-manager might fix this issue for you.

Re: Xfce won't sleep in Xubuntu 15.10

@debian: Thanks for your tips. I however am very comfortable getting my DE look how I like, and the last time I tried to install Debian (Which in fact would be my primary choice), it was unsuccessful to detect my wifi hardware... At this time I was in a hurry and I switched to Xubuntu until I have more time to switch to Debian or OpenSuze. Regarding customization, I have an ansible playbook that adds PPAs to automatically customize my DE to my taste after I install, so it's no big deal for me smile

@ToZ: What should I say... As always, you're the man big_smile I will try this (I could concur, the setting was on something else... Will report back after I see some changes).

Thanks!
Doodloo.

The xfce cd iso installer will tell what wifi firmware you might need. You can fetch the firmware from web and copy firmware to the installation media and try again. The cd contains linux core and xfce desktop, so networking is not needed to get a bootable system. Then you can with dmesg command check what firmware is missing and copy firmware to /lib/firmware as root.

cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-xfce-CD-1.iso

If you have ethernet connection availabe then mini.iso is a handy way to install.

That can be solved by setting lightdm to login automatically. That is recommended if you want to have a fast boot. Type to the Terminal:
sudo leafpad /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
and set:
autologin-user=yourusername
autologin-user-timeout=0

You can also use nano as editor if you have not installed leafpad.

@debian: Thanks, good to know. In my case however it's a no go, in corporate environments such scheme would be too easy to compromise.
