[SOLVED] Mouse themes

For ages I have had problems not being able to find the mouse cursor on my computers with 4K screens (on Xfce4, Xubuntu 20.04). I had always left such issues at the default but the other day I opened the Settings Manager and changed the mouse cursor to one that is about twice the size of the default. This is working much better, but some programs apparently override the Xfce4 mouse theme, and the worst is the Chromium browser where I am trying to write this. In Chromium the mouse cursor is a tiny dot, about two pixels. As soon as the mouse cursor leaves the Chromium window it goes back to the large size.

I opened Synaptic package manager to look for additional themes or other solutions, but didn't come up with anything. I could use some suggestions.

Re: [SOLVED] Mouse themes

Does the problem exist after a restart?

Can you post back:

xfconf-query -c pointers -lv
xfconf-query -c xsettings -lv

…as well as the contents of ~/.Xdefaults (if it exists)

Re: [SOLVED] Mouse themes

Yes, the problem exists after a restart.

I didn't find ~/.Xdefaults.

The queries are:

xfconf-query -c pointers -lv

Looking at the above reminded me that I failed to mention that the touchpad on my Thinkpad P73 is disabled. I hate the [expletive] thing. I use a wireless USB mouse.

I should also add that, having fumbled around with this for a day I am wondering if this is a problem with Chromium, not Xfce4. I posted a query on the Chromium discussion list, but after posting it, I couldn't find it.

I'd say yes it's a Chromium thing...
further I'd say the default Adwaita theme is most stable. Many add on cursor themes have given partial results like you state.

Re: [SOLVED] Mouse themes

Problem solved!

First, I went into Settings and switched from Elementary Xfce to Adwaita, but it didn't make any difference.

But I kept poking around in Chromium trying to figure out what version I had installed. When I finally found an About place it said that there was a more recent version, and did I want to install it? It offered to do so and relaunch without affecting my tabs. I did so, et voilà! Now my mouse pointer is the same in Chromium as elsewhere.

Edit: Can't figure out how to mark this as solved.

There isn't. Just edit the subject field and type that in manually.

Re: [SOLVED] Mouse themes

How did you get that line to open up? I get that only when I create a new post.
