XFCE menus issue on 15 khz Ubuntu 20.04 based distribution

Hi friends.

I'm using an Ubuntu based retrogaming distribution for 15 khz CRT TVs an monitors.

Originally made under Ubuntu 18.04 + XFCE, months ago I upgrade it to 20.04.

After the upgrade I'm getting the issue on XFCE you can watch in this video:

https://www.veed.io/view/5d4ca0ea-fff6- … anel=share

When I use the contextual menu for files or folders with right mouse button, I get this flickerin problem. I think this success when the menu surpase the limits of the desktop/screen (upper or lower).

Curiosly, I was making some test about updating this distro to 22.04 and this was getting fixed, but due to another requirements I'm not still able to made this upgrade (I need to leave the distro in 20.04).

Can you help to fix this, please? Many thank in advice.

Hello and welcome.

Do you get the flickering problem with the compositor turned off? Settings Manager > Windows Manager Tweaks > Compositor.

If so, try the different vblank modes (with the compositor enabled again) as documented here. For the xpresent option, make sure you have the libxpresent libraries installed.

Re: XFCE menus issue on 15 khz Ubuntu 20.04 based distribution

Thanks friend

Tried compositor off and compositor on + the 4 vblank options, but none works for me.

The library I got installed for xpresent is libxpresent1:amd64

As I said, I see this success cause the size of the menu, surpasing the limit of the screen. I have got to many menu entries: I could try to delete some not needed, as a temporal fix, but I don't know how to do that. Could you tell me how?

Any other suggestion? What about a complete uninstall and reinstall? What's the correct way for this?

Thanks again.

As I said, I see this success cause the size of the menu,

The link to the video above no longer works so I can't check which menu program you are using. As one option, you could use another menu program - Xfce has 3:
- Applications Menu
- Whisker Menu
- xfce4-appfinder

A second option is to create a custom menu that doesn't exceed the window size.

That's what I need, how I can do it?

Thanks again.

Manually: https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu

Or use a gui-based app like menulibre or alacarte.

Hi. Finally I fixed it updating to XFCE 4.16. Menulibre or Alacarte do not able me to edit this contexctual menu (only startup menu). Thanks.
