xfce 4.18 desktop right-click menu broken. [Solved]

Hello. I an running Manjaro xfce, and it upgraded to 4-18 today. After reboot, the desktop right-click menu no longer works.

Any thoughts on how I can get this to work again?

Hello and welcome.

Make that the xfdesktop process is running:

ps -ef | grep xfdesktop

...and if it is not, try starting it up:

xfdesktop &

This is xfdesktop version 4.18.0, running on Xfce 4.18.
Built with GTK+ 3.24.35, linked with GTK+ 3.24.35.
Build options:
Desktop Menu: enabled
Desktop Icons: enabled
Desktop File Icons: enabled

-- It shows the menu is enabled...but it won't work

-- The middle-click button works.

What does the following return:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /desktop-menu/show

Does the following command popup the menu?

xfdesktop  --menu

If not, try running xfdesktop in debug mode:

xfdesktop -Q
xfdesktop -e

...and try the right click. Post anything that may display in the terminal window.

Can you also post back:

pacman -Qi libxfce4ui

Ok. Lets see the full xfdesktop setting set:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -lv

Do you have icons on the desktop enabled and "Include Applications..." checked?

Also, try the debug mode again like this:

xfdesktop -Q && xfdesktop -e

...it should spit out a bunch of output in the terminal window. Try the right-click again and see if anything is displayed n the window.

- Again, it froze/blinked/locked-up, had to force shutdown. Right-click not possible.

So you have no desktop icons and "Show application icons in menu" unchecked. If you check that option, then the menu will display.

Edit: The issue has already been fixed in https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/ … 89059a59f7. It will make it into the next official xfdesktop release.
