Re: Screenshots - 2023

Xfce 4.16
Theme: https://github.com/vinceliuice/Layan-gtk-theme / After installation of theme, I chose Layan-solid in Appearance and Window Manager settings
Rounded panels made with the help of reply, by ToZ, under this topic: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=15163
System font: Ubuntu Bold
Terminal font: Monospace

The gaps were made by first, entering xfce4-settings-editor. Then, on 'Channel' list, I chose 'xfce4-panel' and then, for all (three in my case) panels, edited position properties. I needed to do this, as panels snap to the edges of screen, so it was impossible to just move them with cursor, that close. After that, I entered 'Workspaces' settings and then 'Margins' tab. There, I changed the left, right and bottom values to the same small number and top one to much higher number, so tiled or maximized windows, would not touch edges of screen and panels and instead, be slightly away from them. Unfortunately, when windows are tiled next, to each other, there is no gap. The only way to change that, is with one theme, but I like this one, so I just let that be.

Re: Screenshots - 2023

My Xfce desktop looks pretty much like last year - which is a good thing; Xfce just works and works and works and never gives me any grief!
The small problems that pop up are manageable (many thank's, ToZ smile) - it is clean and beautiful and simply the best DE!

I use the Faenza icon theme, which didn't cope well with the naming scheme that was introduced with Xfce 4.16, so I made a script to link the old icons into the new naming scheme, allowing me to continue using the Faenza icons (many thank's, ToZ smile). The script can easily be modified to cover any other icon themes with the same problem, so in case that can be of use to anybody else, here's a link.

Re: Screenshots - 2023

There are good deals on eBay for 3 or 4 year old hardware.

I picked up this beast for a couple hundred bucks.

I'm a hardware guy. Built kit computers in the '70s.

edit: As a followup, Ive watched the bulk resellers for years, like Raki Computers. The last couple of years the offerings have dwindled. Mostly really old stuff, less items from say, 2,3 years ago. Glean from that what you will.

Re: Screenshots - 2023

I custom built computer kits in the 90s....memories.

I now buy all my computers from a reputable local refurb company. My last purchase was an HP 840 G5 with i5, 16GB, 240GB SSD, FHD for about $400 CDN. It flies with Xfce on it.

Wow, How to have the virtual desktop indicator to be stacked like that on XFCE?

Change the number of rows in the properties of the plugin.

Re: Screenshots - 2023

I recently got done reinstalling from Fedora to OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. Partly because KDE Plasma was a "protected package" in Fedora and couldn't be removed, and partly because I wanted rolling release. I am still using XFCE as I have done almost continually since Gnome decided to abandon Gnome 2 for the, let's say, not very appreciated Gnome 3 around 2011.

My desktop is a bit KDE 3.X-inspired. I've never really been a big fan of flat icons and GUI. I'm a very deep person and want my desktop to reflect that wink

P.S. I see a lot of people on this forum are being creative and doing their own thing, and not just sticking to the "Windows" or "Mac OS"-formula. Not that it's wrong if you like that style. It seems Plasma-users these days almost unisonally want their desktop to look like Mac for some reason.

Re: Screenshots - 2023

I successfully ported my custom theme called DesktopPal97 to GTK. It has XFCE specific settings like Whiskermenu and notifications.
DesktopPal97 is a rebellious yet classic fantasy desktop imitating the 90s aesthetic.

Re: Screenshots - 2023

Nothing special. I like the default themes, they feel fresh, breathable and simple!

I only customized the panel a little bit to more comfortably display the date.
