XFCE4 on Debian 11 with Read Only Filesystem: startxfce4 .ICEauthority

I get

startxfce4
/usr/bin/startxfce4: X server already running on display :0.0
xfce4-session: Unable to access file /root/.ICEauthority: Read-only file system

What's the best way around this problem?? I need to get a solid color working for desktop background and keyboard shortcuts.

(I start xfce4-panel and flameshot manually with Xorg and export DISPLAY/XAUTHORITY set to /tmp. firefox-esr --profile=/tmp also works)

I could get a lot working by using /tmp as my home-dir so what I need is a ram file system that could be overlayed on top of the homedir - xfce4-session works this way
