Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

I have read the posts I have found thru searching and none of them have the answer.
One of the old ones was the placement ratio, which I don't have in the theme.rc.
Some of it affected, though not much, is changing the theme.   And by not much I mean just a TAD bit more centered.

I am beginning to think it might have been one of the latest updates.

Here is my system info

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

Is it set properly at Settings Manager > Window Manager Tweaks > Placement? The "By default, place windows..."

Edit: Also check that you don't have any margins set (Settings Manager > Workspaces > Margins)

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

0 on all the margins and I have only 1 workspace
On the Placement in Window Manager Tweaks i have the Center Windows ticked and the Slider all the way to the max.
I have varied the slider to no avail.

Does the slider make any difference at all? At smaller sizes, windows will tend to be scattered about, at larger sizes most will/should centre.

Also, is it all apps that are acting this way or only some (apps can override this setting).

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

Oh yeah, big time.  Moved it to the left and  in fact just tried it again.  This happened.   The slider half way, open window and it is opened in the top left corner, then by accident I had double clicked the shortcut, F4, and the one window , top left, the 2nd window was lower and to the right.

I kept clicking the shortcut and the windows were all over the place.

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

I just did and experiment.   Went into Settings Editor and change the ratio to 70 and the windows open consistently slightly off center lower than 72 and the windows open in random locations.

How off-centre is it? Are we talking a small handful of pixels or a larger amount? Can I also see the output of:

xrandr

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

40 to 50 pixels is all.   Just kinda annoying.  I appreciate all you're doing but it appears we both are beginning to realize there is no fix/workaround.

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

Its really strange because the windows centre on my computer and I can't imagine what else it might be that is causing this to happen to you.

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

here is xrandr output

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384
eDP-1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm x 215mm

of course there is lots more but I thought that info was enough.

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

Do you have a panel at one of the sides? If so, try checking or unchecking the "keep panel above windows" option in that panel's preferences. See if that makes a difference (it does for me).

No, sorry I don't but MX is known for Deskbar as I guess you might have thought I had that.

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

I found the solution weird though it may be, I opened the Display from the Settings window and bumped the Scale to 1.35.  I had to increase my font size though, but all windows now center perfectly.
Maybe you will have some insight on this.

Re: Windows no longer center themselves upon opening

Hmm. Perhaps the xfwm4 placement logic doesn't accurately take into effect display scaling. Might be worth a bug report.

True, now if only I knew how to report a bug.  You would think after 10yrs online with this forum, I should know, but, never had the need to file a bug report.
Care to guide this unknowledgeable user?

Create a new issue report here. You can reference this forum thread.

Note: you will need to create a gitlab account to be able to create the issue report.
