Custom cursor theme

I installed a custom cursor theme to ~/.icons/themename/cursors and I can see the theme name in the "Mouse and Touchpad" settings menu but there is no preview and the cursor doesn't change.

This worked five years ago and then it stopped working and I have never been able to find any explanation as to what changed and what I should do, anything I try from Google does nothing.

Re: Custom cursor theme

Hello and welcome.

Can you post some more details, specifically around the contents and rights of the directories and files?

ls -l ~/.icons
ls -l ~/.icons/themename
ls -l ~/.icons/themename/cursors

Also, which distro, version of Xfce and version of xfce4-settings are you running?
