Hey !
I'm using both stretch and buster nowadays and found a silly detail that bugs me in Buster !
In buster, Thunar's custom actions (set in ~/.config/Thunar/uca.xml) aren't used by xfdesktop. For instance if I have the custom action "open a terminal here" set up in Thunar, that I restart xfdesktop, I can get the "open a terminal" to show up from right-clicking on the desktop.
In debian stretch, xfdesktop behaved correctly.
There is the working versions from stretch
thunar 1.6.11-1
xfdesktop4 4.12.3-3
And the one slightly misbehaving from buster
thunar 1.8.4-1
xfdesktop4 4.12.4-2
Is that a feature choice or a bug ? I can't tell for sure ! ^^'

It's a bug. See: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=12491. You need to run thunar 1.8.x branch with xfdesktop 4.13 branch.
Please remember to mark your thread [SOLVED] to make it easier for others to find

Thanks !
I just made a bug report for debian buster about it, telling them. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=930520
The fact they "freeze" everything to a version with glitches is such a bother sometimes. I love debian but... Sometimes they are hard to love !
By the way, the "custom action" feature is a god damn good idea. I think I will use it a tone. Convert video in mp3, convert .md files in pdf, a standard way of printing every single files, etc.
I think this is great advance toward empowering "anti commandline people" to do easely powerful stuffs ; some skilled people will have to set it for them once, and things might roll. I really rarely like new gadgets (because I think most of them stands in the way of practicality) but here - I'm really happy changing my mind here
