Hi everybody,
This is my first post on this forum. I posted this message on debian-en.org, and "nam1962" advised me to post it here.
I am managing the laptop (HP 17-e1185f-) of a visually impaired person. During the first installation (Debian 9 / Gnome) I easily increased the mouse size from 16 to 48.
For reasons of standardization with other workstations/users of the same "group" I recently switched to Xfce. And there, changing the mouse size in the settings has no effect! I upgraded to debian 10, same problem! Note that under other Xfce PCs this does not pose a problem, but "Murphy's law", the problem is on the workstation of the only visually impaired person in this group.
I analyzed the Xfce parameters and on this computer only I have the following additional parameters:
9) pointers
/USB_Optical_Mouse/Acceleration 2
/USB_Optical_Mouse/Properties/Device_Enabled 1
/USB_Optical_Mouse/ReverseScrolling false
/USB_Optical_Mouse/RightHanded true
/USB_Optical_Mouse/Threshold 4
that I don't see in the "GUI". If I set to 0 Device_Enabled, the mouse doesn't work immediately, so these settings are active.
For information, I have 2 themes installed (defaut & Adwaita) and the problem occurs on both.
And so some questions (I discover Xfce)
How does Xfce construct these parameters?
why these parameters on this computer only, I have 3 other computers, laptop with also touch pad and an optical mouse, which do not have these parameters?
I don't see any error in the logs, did I look wrong?
Where can I find a doc concerning these parameters?
What would be the parameter size in this laptop to add to change the size?
And any other information that might give me a lead...
Thank you in advance.

Hello, and welcome to the forum! Searching the bug tracker I see a reference to it possibly being fixed in Xfce 4.13.
What version of Xfce and the Mouse Settings app are you using? Check it with:
xfce4-mouse-settings -v
It works for me with xfce4-mouse-settings 4.14.3 (Xfce 4.14).
A search in this very forum turned up this post, referenced elsewhere as a possible solution.
I can't answer any of the questions on your list, though, but I agree with nam1962, you're in the right place to get them answered!

I am using version 4.14.2, Xfce4 4.14. It might be wise to update XFCE4 to version 4.14. A lot of fixes/changes from 4.12 to 4.14.

4.12.5 is the last version in Debian 10 (Backports)
Does someone know if we can install Xfce 4.14 in debian 10? and how?
Thanks in advance.

MX-19 has 4.14 installed by default and they are debian stable base. You might try their repos. I think it's available in debian testing as well.
