Orage clock

what happened to "orage clock"?  it disappeared in Xubuntu 20.04 (focal) LTS and/or Xfce 4.14.  i can't get my preferred format ("[ YYYY-mm-dd-HH:MM:SS ]") with what there is now.

yes it does explain.

losing a maintainer is a frequent event for many projects.  i don't sign up to maintain even simple parts of simple projects due to personal health issues that could keep me away for weeks (not covid related).

the best hope is to encourage the current developer to expand format setting options such as a field to enter a strftime() string and a button to restore the coded default.

Since that thread was posted, orage development picked up again and a new release was pushed out in March - https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce-an … 01100.html

Re: Orage clock

DateTime plugin perfectly replaced OrageClock for me, it's pretty customizable through gtk.css file.

will that be strictly for 4.16?  right now i'm on Xubuntu 20.04 with Xfce 4.14.  it's at least not in the Ubuntu repository.

i'm using the clock plugin showing time.   i'd like to have date and time in ISO format as one of the options.

If it's using strftime, "%F.%T" should give you that format.

Re: Orage clock

Maybe it's just because I'm an old fogey, but as I've been using linux machines of one shape or another for well over 20 years now I'm VERY persnickety about things like my desktop layout, and it irks the living daylights out of me when some snippet or other of my desktop "universe" gets jerked out from under me. Case in point:  I like to have date/time/timezone  and date/time/UTC displayed in a panel plugin. On 20.04 with XFCE 4.14, cake. Two instances of the Orage panel plugin provide exactly that:
orage.screenshot.png

However, on 22.04 with XFCE 4.16 I cannot seem to manage this. The Clock plugin almost looks like it'll pull it off, but I can't change the font size so that the entire date/time/timezone construct fits in the available display width. Nor can I change the font color to visually differentiate between the local and UTC clocks at a glance. And while the Datetime plugin has a mechanism for changing the font size, I can't get it all one line, nor can I display the timezone.

I saw the recent announcement of a 4.16 release of Orage, but the changelog and the github notes suggest that the panel plugin functionality for Orage is going to go away. So, I guess this is going to turn into a plea to graft Orage panel plugin's  font configurability into the Clock plugin. Or is there some mechanism behind the curtain - tweaking a config file or somesuch - that is not readily apparent?

[EDIT] And just like that, some further thread chasing found me my own darned answer! D'oh! big_smile   Pango text markup to the rescue, per https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=14632 .

local time in yellow:
<span font="dejavu sans" size='7pt' fgcolor='#ffde00'>%a %m/%d/%y %H:%M:%S %Z</span>
gmt in cyan:
<span font="dejavu sans" size='7pt' fgcolor='#00e7ff'>%a %m/%d/%y %H:%M:%S %Z</span>

I'll shut up now big_smile big_smile

@ToZ, here's sclock https://github.com/Misko-2083/sclock
VCR8LhQ.gif

Panel launcher runs next script.

#!/usr/bin/env bash
# to position remove --lock and --close-on-unfocus options,
# click and drag the clock and use xwininfo to find the position
# then set X and Y

# window position
X=1454
Y=959

# date format and style in pango markup language
_date="%R<span font='Sans Bold 22' color='#7aad35'>:%S</span>
<span color='#afcfcf' font='Ubuntu Bold 15'>%a, %b %d, %Y</span>"

# find xwindow id of the window with sclock.Sclock wmclass
WIN=$(wmctrl -lx | awk '/sclock\.Sclock/{print substr($1,1,10)}')

# close or run
if [ "$WIN" != "" ] ; then
    wmctrl -i -c $WIN
else
         sclock --keep-above \
                --lock \
                --close-on-unfocus \
                --date="${_date}" \
                --color '#dddddd' \
                --posx=$X --posy=$Y \
                --border-color=black \
                --bgcolor='rgba(31,31,31,0.7)' \
                --font='Sans bold 28' --border=2 &
